Maya was raised in South Central Minnesota. She maintains a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, with concentrations in Ceramics and Performance Art from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Since graduating in 2022, Maya has devoted herself to ceramics. She has worked in production, community, and academic studio settings, as well as in ceramics retail. In the retail space, Maya spent most of her time working closely with independent artists, schools of all levels, and community studios alike.
Since moving to Seattle with her partner in 2023, Maya has re-established her personal practice. Her current focus is on creating peculiar and functional handbuilt work, with significant emphasis on form and texture. Someday soon, she aspires to return to academia to focus on large scale handbuilding, atmospheric kiln firings, and incorporating performance into her work.
When she isn’t working at KAC, you might find Maya visiting dear friends at other local pottery studios, tabling at local artist markets, supporting her partner’s soccer club, or spending time with her beloved cat, Helen.
