Teens in Public Service (TIPS)

Our high school TIPS interns assist with our summer camp programming – a great opportunity for future art educators. Internship opportunities also often include event assistance, marketing and outreach, educational support, and more. TIPS is a paid summer internship program.

High School Internships

KAC has worked with Eastside Preparatory SchoolHoly Names Academy, and Interlake High School to offer unpaid internships for high school students. High school internships are a great opportunity to regularly volunteer and gain valuable work experience in a non-profit environment. High school interns have the opportunity to work in event assistance, marketing and outreach, educational support, and more.

Work Study

Kirkland Arts Center (KAC) occasionally offers work study opportunities for currently enrolled KAC students. The work study program exchanges volunteer services for a tuition discount (100%) on classes or workshops.  The program asks volunteers/students to establish a regular work schedule and help at KAC in a variety of ways. After completing at least 30 hours of service, work study students are eligible to receive one free KAC class per quarter.

Gallery Assistants open and close the gallery, greet visitors, answer phones, ensure proper treatment of the facility, and assist with administrative projects for the Exhibitions, Education, and Development Departments.

Gallery Assistants

  • 1 day/week: Gallery Assistants are required to work one gallery shift per week, typically 11am-6pm. Available days depend on current gallery staffing, but consistency is key (ie. every Tuesday).
  • Required skills: Gallery Assistant positions may involve some lifting – moving chairs and pedestals to prepare for gallery rentals, etc. – as well as familiarity with computers and office software. People skills are a must. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Education Assistants

There are several work study positions in this field, including Education Office Assistant and Studio Assistants (Ceramics Studio, Skylight Studio, and Printmaking Studio). Projects and responsibilities vary depending on the position and can include everything from monitoring kilns and mixing glazes to assisting with registration paperwork and marketing materials. Education Assistant schedules are fairly flexible, but require consistent scheduling.

  • Studio Assistants should be long-term KAC students who are very familiar with studio policies and procedures. Studio Assistant positions may involve cleaning, lifting, organizing, and other physical labor. Studio Assistants may also be asked to monitor open studios.
  • Office Assistant positions are less physically intensive but do require familiarity with computers, office software, and the internet. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
