“This summer, I had the opportunity to teach three art camps: Fantasy, Maps, and Storytelling Through Comic Strips. Each camp had its own special moments and was so much fun!
During Epic Adventures week, kids drew and embellished maps with fantastical symbols and imaginative environments before they built small treasures and artifacts out of clay. They worked together to create a huge mural filled with fantastical creatures using acrylic paint and mixed media to bring their imaginative ideas to life. It was wonderful to see them collaborate and build on each other’s ideas.
Outer Space and Alien Worlds week was a little different and full of surprises! After hand-building alien creatures with clay, the students really stepped up during our collaborative projects, creating extra space suits, spaceships, and costumes to add to their imaginary worlds. Their creativity and willingness to jump in and help each other made this camp especially memorable.
Our final camp, Storytelling and Comics, was an incredibly hardworking and focused group who became deeply invested in their characters, comic strips, and storyboards. The group mural was a whole-class effort that showed their artistic abilities with paint, design, and humor. Watching their stories develop throughout the week—and seeing how much thought and effort they put into their creations—was such a rewarding way to finish the summer!”
