Mayor Curtis and Councilmember Falcone from the City of Kirkland Visited Kirkland Arts Center on March 14th, 2024

Kirkland, WA – March 14, 2024 – Mayor Kelli Curtis and Councilmember Amy Falcone from the City of Kirkland paid Kirkland Arts Center (KAC) a visit on March 14, 2024, at 2 pm. The tour was hosted by David Lynx, the Executive Director, Christopher Lye, the Board President, and Rob Kmiec, the Director of Education at KAC, highlighting the KAC’s educational and cultural contributions to the community.

The hour-long tour began at the historic Peter Kirk Building, where guests learned about the building’s transformation into the arts center it is today. Following this, they visited the KAC gallery, witnessing the preparations for the upcoming ‘Like Mother…’ show, curated by Kelly Lyles.

The tour then progressed to the second floor of KAC’s Mezzanine Studio, a dedicated space for the creation of ceramics art, showcasing the talents of KAC’s artistic community. A highlight of the visit was the demonstration of ceramic techniques by Lead Ceramics Technician Eleanor Stelter at the KAC kiln area, illustrating the depth and uniqueness of KAC’s educational offerings.

Mayor Curtis and Councilmember Falcone experienced the Skylight Studio, where 2D art classes including illustration, live figure drawing, painting, and printmaking are taught. The visit culminated in the Turret Room, the office of the Executive Director, where discussions about KAC’s strategic direction, challenges, and opportunities unfolded. Topics of conversation included upkeep of the Peter Kirk Building, serving the public good, expanding KAC’s outreach, and potentially fostering growth in arts awareness and youth programs.

This visit not only highlighted KAC’s role in enriching Kirkland’s cultural landscape but also set the stage for ongoing collaboration aimed at enhancing the arts within the community.
