Frequently Asked Questions
If the work can be dropped by you or a representative in person at the Kirkland Arts Center, then you are eligible to be a member! We do not accept shipped work or work from outside Washington state at this time.
We reserve the right to refuse artwork containing hazardous or dangerous materials as well as any artwork containing discriminatory subject matter (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc).
As the membership program begins, multiple pieces may be requested, but generally speaking, one piece at a time. When a piece sells, you may replace it!
Currently, artwork sizes are limited to no more than 20 inches on the longest side of any 2D work and no larger than 18″ for any 3D works. All 2D works need to be ready to hang, meaning paintings have some sort of hanging system on the back (wire is best) and works on paper need to be framed.
You can still enjoy the other benefits of membership including reduced submission costs for juried shows and invitations to exclusive events they can safely be held!
We accept all kinds of 3D work, utilitarian and sculptural.
As long as the set of works fits within the size constraints above, we can accommodate small sets of pieces. For example: if you have a diptych, both panels must fit within the 20” requirement for 2D works. For 3D work, all parts cannot not exceed the 18” footprint.
If you have questions about a particular piece, please contact us at exhibitions@kirklandartscenter.org
Once we are able to begin safely hosting receptions we will hold two opening receptions a year that will coincide with the main floor exhibition receptions. Until then, we will be promoting member artwork on KAC’s social media accounts.
Artworks do not have to be for sale, but sales are encouraged. You are free to price your work at whatever price point you would like, but in general, most of our sales are between $100 and $400. KAC receives a 40% commission on all work sold; please set your prices with this in mind.
If you would like to speak with a member of our team about your pricing, please email exhibitions@kirklandartscenter.org.
Member shows will last 6 months; this means that every 6 months we will completely change out the work in the members gallery.
Yes and no. It’s not a store, or a gift shop, but a high turnover gallery.
This means that when your artwork sells, we will reach out to you to bring another piece in. The distinction is primarily in how we regard and treat what is on exhibit. We will adhere to best practices in handling and displaying all artworks along the lines of how we would treat any other piece in the gallery. Your work is treated and displayed in a highly professional manner, on par with other fine art galleries.
We will ask all member artists to submit 1 to 2 pages of text for our gallery binder. This can be an artist statement, a bio, a CV, or a combination of the three. Once we are again able to safely gather, we would like to have member-centric events in addition to the gallery receptions where people can meet one other and speak about their works.
We are eager to expand and continue our professional practice talks with gallerists and established artists. Do you have ideas for gallery events? We’d love to hear them! Email us at exhibitions@kirklandartscenter.org
We’re also open to hearing what type of events members would like to see in the gallery.
Of course we are currently limited in our ability to provide events, but we are looking forward to being back in the event space!
